Comings and Goings

The Criminal Law Section mourned the loss of Kent Hart as one of its Vice Chairs at Large this year.  Kent Hart had been a Vice Chair at Large for over 4 years and a vital part of the Executive Committee.  His dedication to this section is missed by all - executive committee members, section members, and the entire legal community.

His passing has opened a position with the Criminal Law Section as the Vice Chair at Large, appointed by the Utah Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (UACDL).  If you are a member of UACDL and are interested in becoming a part of the Executive Committee, please contact the UACDL administration to find out how you can be appointed to fill that position.

Congratulations go out to Mike Boehm who was recently appointed to be the Justice Court Judge in South Jordan.  With his appointment, his position as secretary/treasurer needed to be filled.   In accordance with the bylaws, Tegan Troutner at the Utah Attorney General's Office was nominated and elected by the Executive Committee to fill that prosecutor position.  Welcome to the Criminal Law Section Executive Committee, Tegan!

Our CLE Lunch "Justice Courts:  What Every Attorney Should Know - The Ins and Outs and Dos and Don'ts" was a rousing success!  The Criminal Law Section would like to thank all the Judges who participated in the panel, and to Judge Chin for helping organize the event. Thank you all!!

Many of the attendees commented on how helpful and informative the seminar was and expressed hopes of holding similar seminars more often, and to include a similar seminar with District Court Judges. Based on this input, the section is looking into providing future seminars involving judges in District Courts, Juvenile Courts, Specialty Courts, and Justice Courts.

Keep your eyes peeled for our next CLE brown bag lunch seminar on June 11, a 1 hr CLE in Ethics and our annual elections!
